Kane Landscapes, Inc. is proud to announce that we recently received an award for our entry into the 2015 Excellence in Landscape Awards by the Landscape Contractors Association (LCA). Kane will be receiving a Distinction Award at LCA’s Awards Ceremony on November 18th in the category of Outdoor Living Area for a recently completed project in Vienna, VA.
The Hardesty’s outdoor living area was installed in two phases as the client’s family grew with the home. The first phase was a stunning, three-level addition on the back of their home that would allow for the enjoyment of the beautiful views provided by their wooded surroundings and the creek below. A bluestone patio extends from this under-deck area to a small stone fire-pit surrounded by a circular retaining/sitting wall that appears to hang over the hill above the creek. For the second phase, our Senior Landscape Architect, Alan Blalack, had the stunning vision to incorporate a pool into this difficult terrain. His vision called for the placement of 2,000 to 3,000 pound boulders and several stone masonry walls to tie the pool into the natural setting and to bring the pool to the level of the home, making access easy and the space more functional.
Josh Kane then created a planting design that focused on native plants that, again, would make the back landscape feel like an extension of the woods. The lower area was then leveled using the dirt excavated for the pool, creating a perfect area for the kids to play soccer. A drainage system was installed to handle most of the overflow off the nearby pond and the “creek” was then cleaned up and enhanced with boulders and ground-cover to finish this natural backyard paradise. With the entire yard now complete, the homeowners have an amazing retreat right in their backyards that fits in with natural setting.
