On April 22, 2015, Kane Landscapes participated in the nationwide PLANET Day of Service by bringing volunteers and updating the landscapes of two homes in Fairfax County operated by Pathway Homes. Pathway Homes provides permanent supportive housing to over 400 individual living with serious mental illness in 189 properties throughout Northern Virginia.
Unfortunately, the stigma of mental illness continues to impede these individuals’ integration back into the community. The “Not In My Back Yard” mentality hampers their ability to acquire affordable home in the community. Kane Landscapes, alongside Outdoor Illuminations, helped to combat these negative connotations by updating two properties that provide homes to eight people regaining their potential.
In the spirit of Earth Day, our goals was to make the outdoor environment for the 8 residents that live at these homes more enjoyable by cleaning and repairing the existing landscapes, creating a vegetable garden, adding flowering perennials and shrubs, installing stone steppers, and laying mulch.
